Participating orchestras include the Boston Classical Orchestra, Boston Landmarks Orchestra, Cambridge Symphony, Indian Hill Orchestra, Symphony by the Sea, Vermont Symphony and the Waltham Philharmonic. Twice a week, the composer works with 10-15 children 8-12 years old to create instruments and new music on the theme of Music is Everywhere. In addition the composer will create a new music composition for a professional ensemble that will be inspired by and in response to his or her work with the students. The music created in this residency will have performances at Little House’s Annual Fundraiser and Federated Dorchester Neighborhood Houses’ Special Event. Composer has been selected.

Faith Partners Composer Residency
This special type of community outreach project reinvigorates sacred music and reintroduces composers into religious settings where they have historically flourished. In this collaboration between one Jewish congregation and one predominantly African-American Christian congregation the music directors of each site together choose one resident composer from the ACF New England candidates. The selected composer works with the music directors and the choirs over the course of a year in many different ways including careful text selection and appropriate musical settings that feature the ensembles’ strengths.

In addition, the composer participates in congregational activities including talking to adult and youth study groups, attending social and religious activities, and addressing the congregation on what it means to be a composer, describing his or her creative process, and how that particular congregation has influenced musical choices for the works being composed. This will be the third Faith Partners project in Boston and is emblematic of ACF New England’s efforts to build bridges between composers and communities. Composer has been selected.
