New music programming and interest has been on the increase in
recent years. Every few weeks we will
acknowledge and encourage this trend by calling attention to groups in the area
that present music by living composers through performance, commissions,
competitions, and/or community education and outreach.

Group of the Month - Dinosaur Annex Music Ensemble |

Founded in 1975, Dinosaur Annex Music Ensemble is a leading presenter of new music. The group has established an international reputation for its brilliant performances of newly commissioned pieces and modern masters. Dinosaur Annex presents premières from around the world as well as works by emerging composers of the Boston area.

Salute to Young Composers
February 11-12, 2006
Dinosaur Annex and the Community Music Center of Boston join forces to present the third annual “Salute to Young Composers,” a two-day festival that will engage the community in the creation, understanding, and enjoyment of contemporary music.
- Reading Session – Young composers' pieces will be rehearsed and discussed by professional musicians. Saturday February 11, 4:00 p.m, CMCB, 34 Warren Avenue, Boston.
- Student Recital – A recital of works composed by and performed by young students. Saturday February 11, 5:45 p.m. CMCB, 34 Warren Avenue.
- Panel Discussion – A six-person panel of composers, ranging from elementary school pupils to faculty professors, will explore the role of a composer as seen through the eyes of children and adults. Sunday February 12, 6:30 p.m., First Church in Boston, 66 Marlborough Street.
- Salute to Young Composers Grand Finale Concert – The program includes works of emerging college-age composers and features students from the Community Music Center playing alongside members of Dinosaur Annex; conducted by guest conductor Michael Adelson, with guest narrator Darian Worrell, a CMCB and Walnut Hill School alumnus. Sunday, February 12, 7:30 p.m., First Church in Boston, 66 Marlborough Street. Tickets $20/$15 students and seniors.
