Performing Groups

New music programming and interest has been on the increase in recent years. Every few weeks we will acknowledge and encourage this trend by calling attention to groups in the area that present music by living composers through performance, commissions, competitions, and/or community education and outreach.

Performing Group of the Month - Radius Ensemble

Radius Ensemble is committed to forging a connection between musicians and music lovers of all backgrounds through the intimate medium of chamber music, performed by dynamic artists who share their extraordinary interpretations on and off stage, in the concert hall and in the community.

The ensemble's eclectic repertoire and adventurous programming has earned it rave reviews and a dedicated following.  Beloved classical masterpieces are presented alongside cutting-edge new works to a diverse audience of concertgoers, not limited to new music aficionados. Every concert since the ensemble's inception in 1999 has included a work by a living composer, and several of these have collaborated with its musicians and participated in pre-concert talks.

Radius Ensemble launched a composer in residence program in 2003 to foster emerging talent.  The ensemble has commissioned two world premieres - by  Ken Ueno in 2004 and Hillary Zipper in 2005 - and been awarded prestigious Meet The Composer grants for both collaborations.
