The Boston Classical Orchestra was founded in 1980 by violinist Robert Brink, with conductor F. John Adams. The orchestra makes its home in historic Faneuil Hall. Harry Ellis Dickson, served as Music Director for 16 years, retiring in 1999 when Steven Lipsitt became Music Director.
Today this fully professional ensemble performs five pairs of subscription concerts and a Valentine's Day concert annually in Faneuil Hall, fulfilling its mission to offer outstanding performances of the chamber orchestra repertoire in an intimate setting, concentrating on music of the Classical period.
From the beginning, the BCO has occasionally presented Baroque, Romantic, and Classically-inspired Modern works alongside the masterpieces of Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven and their contemporaries. In November 2000 the orchestra undertook its first commissioned work: Herschel Garfein's Places to Live.
